We had a very hot week yet the tree is bearing up nicely. Autumn everywhere but on our little tree hiding away from the elements.

Thanks to my wife and children for taking the photos while I was away on a pilgrimage in Michelstadt, in Odenwald, Germany at the grave of the Baal Shem of Michelstadt. The cemetery on the outskirts of the town is situated on the side of a hill overlooking a football pitch and open air swimming pool across the road.

The gravestones, the oldest of which dates to 1720, are scattered amongst tall oak trees which provide shade and make it feel like a haunted forest. While prayers are said over the Ba’al Shem’s grave veneered acorns, though without the cups, kept on dropping to the ground like angels’ tears to the devout and like ghosts playing games to the spooked.

Naturally I took some photos of those trees too though it is the gravestones that are lateral over there while the trees are erect and very tall.
